Privacy policy

Videos you process are never uploaded. They are decoded, analysed, redacted and re-encoded by your own browser, on your own device. We do not receive them, store them, or have any technical means of accessing them. This is a property of how the software works rather than a policy commitment, and you can confirm it yourself — see verify it yourself.

Filenames are likewise never transmitted.

We want to know how many people visit and which steps of the workflow they reach — for example, how many visitors who select a file go on to export a result. Until recently that ran on Google Analytics. It no longer does, and no third-party analytics service runs on this site.

Instead, the page sends a short message to this domain when it loads and at each step you reach: which page you are on, roughly where you arrived from, how long a scan took, which detection backend ran, and a coarse size band for the video. No filenames, no video content and no account identifiers are ever included.

We do not store your IP address. It necessarily reaches our server — that is how any request finds its way to us — but it is discarded rather than recorded, and it is never sent onward. There is no cookie. In place of one, your browser holds a random number that identifies nothing about you and is forgotten when you close the tab; it exists so that the steps of a single visit can be counted as one visit.

The resulting records are held by Axiom, a logging service, which stores them on our behalf and receives nothing beyond what is described above.

You can switch it off. Run localStorage.analyticsOff = "1" in your browser console and this site will stop sending anything at all; a standard content blocker will also do. Either way the tool continues to work normally.

You only need an account if you choose to pay to remove the export watermark. In that case we store your email address, held in Amazon Cognito, together with a record of whether you have purchased. We use it to sign you in and to honour your purchase on later visits. We do not send marketing email.

Payments are processed by Stripe. Card details are entered on Stripe’s own hosted checkout page and never reach this site. We receive confirmation that a payment succeeded, not your card number.

This site sets no cookies at all. It stores your light or dark theme preference in your browser’s local storage, and — if you sign in — the session tokens that keep you signed in. It also holds the random session number described under Analytics, in session storage, which your browser discards when you close the tab. Nothing else is stored on your device by us.

If you are in the UK or the EU, data protection law gives you the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to how it is processed. In practice the only personal data we hold is the email address of paying customers. To exercise any of these rights, or to have your account and email address deleted, email hello@anonymizevideo.app.

Our lawful basis for holding a customer email address is performance of the contract to supply watermark-free exports. Our lawful basis for analytics is legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used; since we hold no IP addresses, no cookies and no identifiers that persist beyond a single tab, the analytics records are not personal data and there is nothing in them to look up, correct or delete.

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of this page will change with it.
