Why blur a dashcam clip before sharing it?
A near-miss clip posted to social media routinely identifies a driver by their registration plate long before anyone has established what actually happened. Once that plate is legible in a public video, the vehicle keeper is identifiable, and the clip can follow them indefinitely.
Blurring plates and faces lets you make the point — the manoeuvre, the road conditions, the sequence of events — without turning a stranger into a target. For insurance and police submissions, the opposite applies: send the original to them directly, and use a redacted copy for anything that will be seen more widely.

Frequently asked questions
Is my dashcam footage uploaded anywhere?
No. The video is decoded, analysed, redacted and re-encoded on your own device. It is never uploaded to a server, and after your first visit the app runs with no network connection at all.
Can it blur number plates as well as faces?
Yes. Choose License plates in the Detection model dropdown and run the scan — detected plates can be blurred, pixelated or covered with a solid block before you export.
My dashcam files are long. Will they work?
Around 15 minutes at 1080p is comfortable on typical hardware. Dashcams usually write footage in short segments, so process the segment covering the incident rather than a whole journey. For longer clips, scaling the output resolution down in the export options makes the job far more likely to finish.
Will blurring damage the footage as evidence?
Blurring changes the pixels it covers, so keep your original file untouched and share the redacted copy. Timestamps, road layout, vehicle movement and the sequence of events all stay intact — you remove identities, not the substance of the recording.
