Why there is a charge at all
Your video is processed by your own computer, so the tool costs nothing per video to run — there are no servers doing the encoding and no storage bills scaling with usage. The one-off payment covers development and the small amount of infrastructure that serves the page.
That is also why there is no subscription. Nothing about a subscription would match how the tool works, and a recurring charge for software that runs on your own hardware would be hard to justify.

Why do I need an account to pay?
Because the purchase has to be attached to something in order to be honoured on your next visit. An email address is the only detail required — it is used to sign you in and confirm your purchase, nothing else.
